At the heart of Flemish Limbourg, near Germany, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and France, the monastery of Notre-Dame du Fiat witnesses to the Christian roots of Europe. The monastery with its cloister of thirty hermitages is hidden in the silence and solitude offered by the forest of Campine. The bishop’s house of Hasselt received the building permit delivered in good and correct form (1994), but administrative problems followed: protests againts the permit (1995), the permit was then confirmed (1995), the permit was rescinded (1999), the permit was reissued (2001), and was again rescinded (2009). The liturgy celebrated in Flemish allows the retreatants of the region to participate fully.
