Between Lourdes and Bétharram, two eminent places of pilgrimage to the Virgin Mary, the monastery of the Désert de l’Immaculée is isolated by a circle of mountains of the Pyrenean Piedmont. On the feast of the Immaculate Conception in 1998, the first monastic sisters arrived to begin their life of solitude and fraternal communion in a little cloister of poor caravans (trailers) serving as hermitages and which were surrounded by palisades of wood. In the spring of 2009, the construction of the monastery began. Even if the innumerable pilgrims, sick in body or in soul, who visit Lourdes do not know of the presence of the monastery, the sisters of the community feel particularly responsible for bearing them in their prayer.
