Situated in the diocese of Kaisiadorys, between Vilnius and Kaunas, this monastery is in a vast plain on the bank of the river Neris. Founded in 1994 after the communist era, the monastery of “Marija Ausriné” bears the name of a sanctuary of the Virgin in Vilnius: Our Lady of the Dawn. It is the Lithuanians themselves who invited us to found a monastery in their country, for they found an affinity between the solitary and silent life voluntarily chosen by the monastic sisters and their country which bore 50 years of enforced silence and solitude. At the price of terrible suffering, the church kept as a treasure the One thing necessary to which we have chosen to consecrate our life. The sisters work with amber, “the gold of Lithuania”.
