This Roman monastery is in the desert of the province from Huesca called “los Monegros”, to Villanueva of Sijena in Aragon. It was founded in 1188 by the queen Doña Sancha and was constructed on a lagoon, “in a place chosen by the Virgin”. Tradition holds that there were repeated apparitions of a statue of the Virgin, the “Virgin of Coro” which is still venerated today. The large and very beautiful church is worthy of admiration: the entrance is a big arch formed by fourteen curves. The monastery suffered the vicissitudes of the revolutions of the 19th century and was almost destroyed during the civil war of 1936. For almost eight centuries, the sisters of the Order of Hospitaliers of Saint John of Jerusalem prayed in this place, and, before leaving, they offered it to our monastic Family to continue the tradition of prayer.
